Pressing the blue Record Your Video button below will take you to a page where you can create a short video (approximately five minutes) where you answer these questions:

  • Who invited you to join this project?
  • How has Covid-19 impacted you?
  • Who or what has kept you going in this moment of crisis?
  • What do you hope we will learn from this crisis?

If recording your video with a phone, try and remember to hold it sideways and look into the camera. If possible do the video indoors, near a window, with the light on your face. If you need to do your video outside, seek out a quiet location sheltered from the wind. If you are not comfortable doing so, you do not need to show your face but could choose to document something else relevant to your experience.

When you press the blue button to record your video, the question prompts will appear at the top of the screen.  You can move from question to question by using the arrow keys.

When you are finished with your video, you will be asked to provide some information and to give you your permission to add the video to the project website and archive.  You will be directed to a second set of questions that will help us position your video on a map. Visitors to the site will be able to follow the threads connecting the videos from person to person.

Alternatively, you can manually record and then upload your video, audio, or image files here.

Q & A :

Will the videos be publicly available?

Yes, the videos will be posted online and publicly available. Be sure only to talk about things you feel comfortable sharing with the public.

Do I need to use my real name?

You do not need to use your real name if you would prefer to maintain a higher level of privacy. Whether you use your real name or not is up to you. If you reach out to others and ask them to contribute a video, be sure to tell them the name you chose to use so that we can link their video to yours.

Do I need to provide my actual location?

No, you should be aware the location you provide will be attached to your video and publicly viewable. Your video will be pinned to a map at the location you submit. Choose a location that protects your privacy.

Does my video have to be of myself?

Your video can be of anything you choose.  If using a phone, you can switch the camera from the front to the back using the gear icon for settings.

Can I submit audio instead of video?

Yes, you can submit audio files.  If you choose to create an audio file, you can either manually record and upload it or turn your camera off when you press the blue submission button.

Can I invite anyone I know to submit a video no matter where they live?

Yes, please invite anyone you feel close to to contribute regardless of where they live.

Do videos need to be in English?

No, they can be in any language you feel most comfortable in. Currently our instructions are only available in English and Spanish, so please be sure to explain the project as thoroughly as you can to participants in their own language.

Can I video a friend or family member?

Yes, you can. Please make sure they understand that the video will be posted publicly and be part of this project. When you press the blue button to record, there will be a gear icon that will allow you to switch to the back camera of your phone if you have one.  Once you are done recording, complete the questions that follow with the person in your presence and have them click the permission form.
